Visp: where history meets modernity
The old town has its own personal charm and offers many historic and contemporary buildings, corners and alleyways, each with their own unique stories.
Old Visp developed in the hilly area because the valley floor was subject to frequent flooding. A ring wall was built on the hill for better defense. However, several fires and the great conflagration of 1518 destroyed almost all of Visp. Today, only a few houses from the Middle Ages remain.
To counteract the flooding, the major Rhone correction project was launched around 1900. This freed up the area for development. Today, Visp has over 8,000 inhabitants and is the economic center of the German-speaking Upper Valais.

Liar’s guide
Entertaining tour of the village with lies and dinner in Visp.
On this guided tour, you will explore eight exciting locations and immerse yourself in fascinating stories about the city. But not everything that is told is true – eight of the stories are lies!
Your task? Expose the lies in the competition and put your flair for facts to the test. During the tour you will enjoy refreshing mineral water, three wine aperitifs, a warming soup and a tasty snack along the way.
